Frogger! The Frogger Musical

frogger_game_arcadeAt long last, Paul and Storm have brought forth another new song! Alert the media!

This song is our entry for the final match of the current round of the Masters of Song Fu songwriting competition. Our task this time around was to “craft a composition that contains AT LEAST THREE (3) distinctly different songs within [our] final song, but which fit together into a cohesive whole.”

To answer the call, we dug deep within our souls…and found an arcade in 1981, apparently. But then we realized that the video game Frogger contains all the elements of a great narrative; all it needed was someone with the guts, someone with the inspiration, someone with an assignment to write a song and a rapidly approaching deadline. That someone was us.

In any event, please enjoy our latest epic; and when you’re done listening, please go vote for your favorite. (We’re up against the talented and terminally adorable ukuletrix Molly in this final round, so it should be a hard-fought battle)

According to Google, “ukuletrix” is a neologism. Let’s see whether it sticks. Alert Mark Frauenfelder!

…this may be my new favorite song of yours. I only read this post fifteen minutes ago and I already listened to it twice.

Paul and Storm you are a class act. In the heat of the battle you still have kind things to say about your opponent. Well done gentlemen.

Damn, guys. This seriously rocks! The production is quite impressive, and the song works wonderfully well.

I’m curious, the last two songs (this and Boolean Love Song) have *way* more electronica (well, keyboards) than nearly any of your material. Is this a deliberate choice, or new skillz, or are you guys hitting up some DJ for post-production?

Anyway, you keep this up, and you’ll be losing the “Geek Folk Rock” niche… but likely gaining still others. *grin*

That was wonderfully epic in the way in a “Don’t Stop Believing” kind of way, especially “Hop on Board.” Steve Perry would agree. 😀

I haven’t listened to Molly’s song yet, but I can’t imagine you won’t crush her with this epic. Poor Molly. Great job, guys!

As much as I like Molly in a little sister sort of way, you have got to take stronger measures to kick her ass. She’s currently ahead by a 2 to 1 margin! And while her song is pleasant enough, Frogger! The Frogger Musical is a fricken masterpiece!! You should at least give us the right link for voting.

Any song that makes extensive use of the vibraslap is a winner in my book!

Dios mio…….Molly is floggin’ froggy….how can this be?? Get to the polls P&S fans or this one could be a landslide.

Molly is indeed fab, and while I agree with some of the comments over at QSE that it takes something special to take multiple sides to something contentious (it tugs at my philosopher heart), your song was simply better composed and had a better conclusion.

I hope you guys play some of your Song Fu songs at the Granada in a few weeks.

I think…I think this has just become my favorite song ever of all time. It’s like the world’s dorkiest power ballad…and I love it so insanely much.

Pretty cool, guys! The first section is vaguely reminiscent of “Video Killed the Radio Star.” Intentional or incidental, I wonder. Also, Paul taking his trumpet out of mothballs = truly excellent. Third section is prog-rock-tastic! Tried to vote for you, but the Quick Stop site thinks I’ve already voted. ::sad face::

Amazing song… definitely one of my favorite Paul and Storm songs now. I expect to hear it next time you’re in Boston.

Awesome work. The first section reminded me of Alan Mencken’s work on Little Shop of Horrors. I kinda want to see a five or ten-minute version of this musical. Perhaps including a soulful number by one of the crocs about how he’s misunderstood…

    CLASSIC !!!

Thanks for reminding me of my first adolescent vidseo game experience… very cool.

    Hey!

I went to your show in NY, on Dec. 9, 2009 with JoCo and you guys were awesome! You serenaded my friend during the Frogger song (I was sitting right next to her going, “YEAH WET PAINT!”), and I was wondering if you had a recording of it, because she’s a big fan of yours. If you do, please let me know, because I know it would mean a lot to her if you could send me or her a link to it.

    From,
    Blaize

P.S. Keep up the good work! If it wasn’t for my friend, I would’ve never known that there were more awesome musicians out there that do real music. ^_^

I’d like to get the multi-track masters to this and try remixing it 🙂 I love lyrically-themed concept music like this. I did a concept album with Chrono Trigger called “Chrono Tied” and it would be fun to do something fun and electronic with this Frogger musical if I could get ahold of multitracks for it
