    For Storm, I suggest:

    http://www.officedepot.com/catalog/catalogSku.do?id=519380&pr=

Affordable, and comes with my favorite game on the 360!

Also, get http://www.buy.com/prod/xbox-360-live-12-month-gold-subscription-card-free-1-month-bonus/q/loc/108/201975268.html , if you’re planning to play online.

And these are the best prices available now: I checked.

    Make sure the 360 has a hard-drive!

    It’s well worth it!

    Frogger.

Also, as far as running a Geek Tourney, you guys can refer to the way Conor Lastowka is running the State Quarters competition over on the Rifftrax Blog: http://blog.rifftrax.com/category/state-quarters/

    hows about MONTEZUMA’S REVENGE?

it’s a classic game AND an unpleasant bodily function.

thanks for the paradise, you guys were great!

I was thinking Galaga before I even saw it on the list. 🙂

Oooo, thanks for reminding me to pick up the canned cranberry sauce for tomorrow, Storm. While my sister makes a mean fresh sauce, I need to carry on my dad’s tradition of annoying the hell out her by getting the canned as well. Damned good stuff that cylinder ‘o cranberries. Happy Turkey Day, all.

Amanda, “Thanks for the Paradise” is such a band name. Or actually an album title. The debut album from the band “Cylindrical Foods.”

If you’re going classic arcade, gotta be Assault.

I say, it should be Donkey Kong! Or Bang Bang Ball. 😀

But all those arcade game names are awesome, I’d be glad with any of them. ^^

    Storm:

Get the $300 XBOX, it has a 60 GB HD which should be sufficient for a while. If you can swing it, get the Elite which uses the 120 GB HD. It’s $100 more, but you get the bigger HD. You can install games, download movies etc and you’ll have plenty of space to work with.

Also, games you must purchase: Left4Dead, Rock Band 2 and some fighting game. SoulCalibur2 is great. And then you can add me to your list of friends and we can play them all! Wheee!

Also, I am still going with Mappy for the server name.

FYI, the other reason a bigger hard drive is important is that the newest XBOX update lets you install games to the hard drive, which makes them run much better. But each game is going to take several gigs to do so.

Storm, I agree with Adam N that Bioshock is a must have, so I like the looks of bundle he linked. And while I’m being the yes man – er, woman – I have to agree with Len on needing a HD, and his list of games. I’d add in Fallout 3, as well. Also, I think it’s pretty much a requirement that you download Age of Booty (Arrr!).

Happy turkey day to you two! 🙂

Wait, Storm has his own LOLCats? I hereby invoke the rule of the Internets that “pics or it didn’t happen.”

Yeah Rock Band/Guitar Hero/etc type of games. Also check out those sports or wrasslin’ games, because sometimes you just want to hit people with chairs and for it to be OK… Even more fun is to use the “Create a…” feature – like “Create a boxer” “create a wrestler” etc. Then you create yourself and beat up someone you dislike. Fun times.

    Pfft, OpenOffice.org Calc > Excel.

    I’m looking forward to Newmans.

    I’m voting for Asteroids.

I’m thinking either GORF or Tempest for the server – unless Burger Time is classic enough.

Be nice to your sysadmin, because he can make you suffer. Go with something short and simple like Galaga or Gorf.

How could you forget the humble Breakout and Pong?

Otherwise I guess I’d recommend Gauntlet, because it’s the one I have the most vivid memories of (I used to hate being chased by Death, but I still played, whereas I was too scared to even play Aliens because I didn’t like it when the alien’s head filled up the whole screen like that when it was about to eat you, althuogh I guess that would have made it easier to shoot at. I’m such a girl.)

I only remember the TV show of Pole Position, I never realised it shared its name with a video game and I never figured out what the title meant.

At my son’s Thanksgiving morning high school football game, one of the refs, who is traditionally introduced with a different nickname at every game, was introduced as “Gorilla Monsoon”. Right after I got home from the game I listened to the podcast and heard the Lou Albano song at the end. I don’t think I’d heard either name in over thirty years. Thanks for giving me an unexpected Thanksgiving chuckle at the coincidence.

Funny you should mention Desert Bus, there’s a marathon starting tonight to raise money for Child’s Play tonight at http://www.desertbus.org. As for server names, how can you not pick Splatterhouse. It has all the joy of Double Dragon, but you fight a giant rotting corpse. Family fun!

Going back in time even more, why not call the server “Spacewar”?

For the xbox, I would advise against the cheapest arcade package, other than that, it’s free reign, but I’d love to see you get halo 3 and learn about a little thing called Grifball.

If the name has to be from a classic arcade game, then I submit Omega Race (that pretty much shows my age). If it can be any video/computer game, then it has to be Diablo!!!

Too bad you’re not getting a PS3 because then I’d recommend Pain (a wonderful waste of time).

If you’re really getting the 360 for primarily Rockband, don’t get anything with a HardDrive smaller then 60g. With them shooting for 500 songs by the end of the year (and well on their way there) that starts to take some space quickly! Also you want to have room for all of your videos that you download (Season 2 of The Guild is allegedly going to be Xbox live exclusive)

It might be more modern than you consider “classic”, but my vote is for Golden Axe.

I have about 180 songs uploaded in Rock Band including the ones from the original game and out of the 120 GB drive I have for my XBox 360, I still have 102 GB left. I would recommend the one with 60 GB or more.

Make sure you get the free Miranda Cosgrove song available for Rock Band on Dec 2nd.
