Album: "Watts in a Tank" by Diesel, ca 1980. "Sausalito Summer Night" has, to put it bluntly, the best guitar riff of all time. And I could totally see P&S doing "Down in the Silver Mine".

Movie: Apollo 13. I remember being six years old and watching the moon landing with my Dad on our tiny black & white TV. It was the only time I've ever seen my Dad cry. Watching the movie brings it all back.

I think for a cover you should do "Flash Gordon" from Queen.

"I like to play with things.... before annihilation!"

Late to the party to suggest Reign in Blood! This album would be potentially hilarious reinterpreted into a Paul & Storm style of music.

I second, third and fourth anything by Tom Lehrer. Also, Barenaked Ladies' Born on a Pirate Ship. And I think Sublime's self-titled album would be hilarious.

One album immediately came to mind for you guys, but I'm warning you it's conceptual, and a commitment: Queen's soundtrack album for Flash Gordon. The fun challenge would be that you'd have to do all the scenes from the movie that are on the album, too.

Gotta agree with Jeff on the martial arts for geeks. Maybe it appeals to our technical, solitary nature? Hell, in high school I used to run home from marching band, swap my gear and run right back out to karate class (and here I am years later a dorky graphic designer).

Movies that make me cry: Children of Men and Downfall. I also get pretty weepy by the end of Nerdcore Rising. But it's not really a movie, so I'm not sure if it counts.

I think any martial art is geek/nerd friendly. The krav maga school I teach at is full of graphic designers, computer-savvy govt employees, teachers, and recently people who were involved in a fan-made Firefly movie.

Personally I could care less about what major league team beat who, but I have an excellent grasp of MMA and kick boxing stats and records.

Albums to cover: Moxy Früvous's *Bargainville*. Or really, anything by them. I'm sure you know all their stuff by heart! Alternately, Oingo Boingo's *Only a Lad*. Boingo is a total geek band, and the album is only 38 minutes long. Totally doable.

Geek sports: I concur with Ultimate Frisbee. It was the primary sport of my college sci-fi/gaming club for a long while. How about Shovelglove?

Movies that make me cry: Not many. I might also be borderline-replicant. (That should have been the show title.) Recently, Up made me cry like a little girl, but there were, um, extenuating circumstances.

Stuff to do in Dublin: The Trinity College library is pretty freakin' impressive. And you must, MUST tour the Guinness Storehouse. We thought it might be cheesy, but it's a great tour, and it ends with a free pint and a fantastic view of the city. How can you go wrong?

Stuff to do in London: I think I was in London for a grand total of, maybe, six hours, but the London Eye is pretty neato. I also enjoyed visiting the Tower of London. Lots and lots of nifty things to see there. I particularly enjoyed Henry VIII's odd armor, and when we were there, they had a display of actual steampunk-like experimental weapons from, like, the 16th or 17th century.

And try to make time to visit the Museum of Jurassic Technology while you're here in LA. I think you'd get a kick out of it. Sorry I'm gonna miss the show. Stupid gummint. :-p

You guys asked for suggestions of what to do while in the UK and Ireland. I'd say that if you're going to be in Bristol, then certainly go to Glastonbury. It's a tiny town but it's the legendary site of the Isle of Avalon, so the town is full of Arthurian Legend and general mysticism. A must, in my opinion. While there, be sure to climb to the top of Glastonbury Tor and drink from the Chalice Well.

I think you guys should do the Who's Tommy.

Sure you don't have a drummer, but I'm sure that would spur your creativity.

...and if you do, be sure to perform it in Portland.

I’m a big baseball fan (hence the Twins part of twinschick1); I agree that the statistics end of it appeals to geeks. I helped coach my sister’s community baseball team when she was in elementary school, and I kept up to date stats for every kid on that team. Because, you know, it was really important that those 9 year-olds knew their ERAs and SLG. I also completely agree that fantasy sports are a geek thing. I’m an avid fantasy football player and I love the challenge of assembling the perfect team. The research end of it appeals to the studious, data-collecting part of my personality. If anyone thinks otherwise about fantasy sports, one look at some of the team names would make it perfectly clear that it’s totally a geek thing (i.e. the teams in my league named Ender’s Jeesh and Pangaea Pigskins).

Still on the sports theme, A League of Their Own is a movie that makes me cry every time (at the end in the Hall of Fame). There are many others, but I can’t think of any specific ones right now.

Paul, I was thinking of Tenacious D, too, when Storm asked the question about albums you should cover. FWIW, I would pay lots of money to see you guys do Tenacious D, especially “Fuck Her Gently” and “Double Team.” BTW, aside from your own material, your performance of “Hearing Aid” was my favorite part of the Ann Arbor show. Full disclosure: like Paul, I like TMBG, but I’ve never been what you would call a rabid fan. I really enjoyed your take on that song, though.

I’m intrigued with what you’re going to do with Uncle Storm, but hope his stories don’t go the way of The Puppet (i.e. you promise us that there may be more to come and then it disappears). Please don’t kill Uncle Storm!

The Chipotle Bunker made me hungry for Chipotle, which would have been fine if it hadn’t been 6:30 in the morning when I was listening. :P And Jonathan Swift’s thighbone made me actually laugh out loud. Again, it was 6:30 AM...

And Jonathan Swift’s thighbone made me actually laugh out loud. Again, it was 6:30 AM…

Guys, just pick an album that influenced your musical style, and send that puppy into orbit.

I totally <strike>second</strike> third Daniel's suggestion that you cover a Tom Lehrer album. His style is so similar to yours, and you could add some kickin' harmonies. For myself, I think I could do a decent cover of Mirah's Advisory Committee It's relatively short, like Flood and my vocal range is pretty similar to hers. I'd also like to do the Dr. Horrible soundtrack, but the boys have the best parts on that so I'd have to transpose their parts a bit.

Geek sports - fantasy baseball (statistics!), fencing (Ren Faire training!), billiards (geometry!), and yes Quidditch. Saw a local college group practicing in the park last week.

I tend to tear up at episodes of TV shows rather than films, since it's more of a long-term attachment to the characters. That said, the first few times I saw Serenity in the theater I... got something in my eye... at the end of the Alliance/Reaver battle scene. And the following half hour.

Not quite an internationally reknowned album, but personally I'd love a whole album cover of one of my top ten of all time: "You Will Go to the Moon" by Moxy Fruvous. (If I wasn't on my phone there would be the proper umlauts).

I know it is a dude cliche, but I get choked up at "Field of Dreams" every damn time. My dad is still with us, but it's been a long time since we did any playing catch.

I second An Evening Wasted with Tom Lehrer. That Was The Year That Was would be good, too.

And how about the Squeeze album Frank? A concept album that's also quite tuneful.

A handful of the myriad films that make me cry every damn time: Apollo 13, Local Hero, A Christmas Carol (the George C Scott version), It's a Wonderful Life, Field of Dreams.
