Steely Dan is also a duo, I think.

Why not start writing down some of those ""..." is our emo band" names?

The best one/two person band name that I can think of is Atom and His Package. (It's either a one or two person band depending on whether or not you think the sequencer counts as a band member or not.)

Others that come to mind:
-Worm Quartet
-Barenaked Ladies (started out as a duo)
-Dashboard Confessional (started out as a soloist)

You know, as for duos with names, the two that immediately came to mind for me were Tenacious D and Flight of the Conchords.

Obviously Paul & Storm is working for you as a duet, but when you are doing stuff with other people, like Coulton or Molly Lewis (get her on the podcast - please!) a good group name might be an idea.
Names such as:
Shlumpy Rumplehead
Cowboy Resurgence
the Innocent whistlers (or the Innocent Plotters)
Earbox
They Might Not Be Giants (perfect for a one-off satire of the TMBGs)
The Dave Barrys

@Seth, in that case: you stop hacking into my Facebook and selling the contents to P&S! If I find some embarrassing photos from a Jimmy Buffett concert on here next, I'll know who was in my account. ;-)

@Erin: Seriously! Maybe we should move to twitter, they'll never find us there! It's not like we've ever posted our twitter handles or anything...oh, wait, crap... Besides, we don't want them thinking that the minions are talking amongst themselves and plotting. No. Never plotting. Why would we do that? No reason for a minion to plot. Nope.

@Tam: interesting Brisco/Burn Notice paradox you bring up. At least the 'Brisco' theme song lives on as the sports theme for NBC. BTW, have you gotten the DVD set? If not get it! Bruce Campbell commentary for the pilot episode!

Regarding the duo names, you guys DO have the added bonus of one of you being named Storm which isn't exactly common. Although the 1st time I saw you I think the marquee listed you as "Paul Storm".

@Ann: Brisco County Jr. was an awesome show, but bringing it back would destroy the concentrated awesome that is Burn Notice, and I can't allow that to happen!

Besides it's been so long when the show was last in production that the new episodes wouldn't be able to rival the awesomeness of the originals anyway!

Boards Of Canada is a good duo.
Also, if you weren't called Paul & Storm, I really don't think I should be the person that suggests the new name.

As far as my favorite drink goes, I'm impartial to a good milkshake. Do milkshakes count as drinks?

Question about the blind minion art: Can you agree not to pick Len as the winner? Because, really, if he enters, I feel like my stick figures won't have a fighting chance.

Also, I agree with Ann - quit hacking into our messages!

@Ann: Maybe we'll have to take our P&S conversations somewhere other than Facebook. If they read our serious song conversation, then they might have also seen the parts where we discussed how awesome we think they are, and, well, then they might get the idea that we like them. That would totally ruin the cool, disinterested image we've set up for ourselves. ;)

Where do Barnes and Barnes fit in? It's a pair of names, but it's not their real names.

Also, people always forget that the core of the Alan Parsons Project was really two guys--although Parsons was the name and the producer, Eric Woolfson wrote almost all of the songs (a handful were cowritten with Parsons) and sang a fair number of them.

(Also, I'm earbox on Twitter--the fellow who asked about the serious songs. You guys also wished me a happy birthday last month--thanks!)

Well that's freaky, I was just having the "it'd be interesting if P&S wrote some more serious songs" conversation last week and 'Better Off Dead' came up (Quit hacking into my facebook account messages, guys!) Admittedly, it took me weeks to finally listen to the song b/c I absolutely can't stand "It's a Wonderful Life" but dammit I fell in love with that song. Better Off Dead is a staple on my ipod.

I've had the Ayinger Oktoberfest before; It wasn't what I was expecting but was still pretty good. I'm eagerly waiting for Blue Moon's winter brew "Full Moon" to be out. It makes winter all worthwhile.

The first step in the cowboy resurgence should be putting "The Adventures of Brisco County Jr." back on the air hasta pronto. Bruce Campbell as a cowboy? Oh hells yes.

I've always thought that "Suppurating Pustules" would be a GREAT name for a band. Or "Sucking Chest Wound."

Of course, you'd have to go heavy metal and/or goth. But hey.

More Uncle Storm = happy Erin :) I think the addition of having Paul describing the pictures makes it even better.

Thanks again for the great show in Ann Arbor last night. I really enjoyed seeing/hearing you play trumpet live, Paul. But, that may just be the band geek in me.

According to the Wikipedia, there are in fact extant Mayans, primarily in the Yucatan and Belize. There was massacring and decimation by diseases and intermixing with European settlers that pretty much did away with Mayan civilization as it was 500 years ago, but they're still around. That said, there's no way in hell I'm paying money to see The Day After the Day After Tomorrow.

I tend more toward Paul's end of the alcoholic beverage spectrum (i.e. single malt vs. bourbon), except I do enjoy a good beer of the red or brown ale variety. And tequila. And sake. (Okay, so I'm diverse.) For daytime, I'm a big fan of water, juices, and fruity teas, depending on the ambient temperature. And, of course, my mandatory morning coffee without which I am zombie!girl. I can't stand any variety of brown soda -- cola, root beer, all gross -- but Schweppes ginger ale is awesome.

I don't see as there's any problem with using your names, but if you want to find a "group name" for your seriouser music... Yeah, I got nuthin'. Well, except Mid-Atlantic Groove, but even I know that's pretty lame. (Yes, I made a music/geology pun. You wanna make something of it?)

I tend more toward Paul’s end of the alcoholic beverage spectrum (i.e. single malt vs. bourbon), except I do enjoy a good beer of the red or brown ale variety. And tequila. And sake. (Okay, so I’m diverse.) For daytime, I’m a big fan of water, juices, and fruity teas, depending on the ambient temperature. And, of course, my mandatory morning coffee without which I am zombie!girl. I can’t stand any variety of brown soda — cola, root beer, all gross — but Schweppes ginger ale is awesome.

I don’t see as there’s any problem with using your names, but if you want to find a “group name” for your seriouser music… Yeah, I got nuthin’. Well, except Mid-Atlantic Groove, but even I know that’s pretty lame. (Yes, I made a music/geology pun. You wanna make something of it?)

Haven't heard the latest podcast yet (iTunes says the URL isn't valid), but thought I'd throw in a name -- how about Da Vinci's Netbook?

Another pretty well-known duo: Eurythmics

A thought that came to mind a minute ago, the names for two person bands probably came from trying to distance themselves from the excruciating lameness of Hall and Oates and the Captain and Tenille, and the actual names thing has only come back recently since no one will immediately associate a duo as being crappy soft ballads like the aforementioned two.

And I can't believe I didn't think of either the White Stripes or Dresden Dolls!

You know, the conversation on duo band names reminded me of a recent interview along the same lines by musicians Jon Foreman and Sean Watkins about how they came up with a name for their name. They noted that a lot of time when two men form a band together, they very often call themselves the "Something Brothers" even though they aren't actually related (which is why they came up with the name 'Fiction Family' since they're not actually related.)

A new band name for Paul and Storm....ummm...no. I honestly cannot.

The White Stripes is possibly the only one so far that I buy. I dig Amanda Palmer, but sorry, the "Dresden Dolls" as a name is kinda twee.

On duo names: How about the White Stripes? Or the Dresden Dolls? I think your byline "Professional Singing Persons" actually works pretty well as a stand-alone band name.

Also, Better Off Dead is one of my favoritest songs of yours. (Then again, I'm a Coulton fan. The darkerer and sadderer, the betterer.)
