Jimmy Steward is a very good choice. I might consider Mickey Rooney, just because he’s got more credits than almost anyone else. Maybe Mel Blanc, who has over 1000 credits. Plus who doesn’t like Looney Tunes?

After watching Gran Torino tonight, I’d also consider Clint Eastwood.

Aw jeez, don’t make me pick.

I agree that Stewart is the most practical choice (unless mtgordon’s cheat is allowed, in which case I second his vote for Hitch).

But in terms of pure pleasure I get from watching an actor:
Cary Grant
Ingrid Bergman
Michael Caine

And maybe, just maybe, Johnny Depp. His films need a bit more time in the cultural soaking pool.

Phillip Seymour Hoffman. I would watch him whether he was in “Homicide: Life on the Street” or “Mr. Roger’s Neighborhood.” He is absolutely amazing.

I really like that “It’s a Wonderful Life” was mentioned in a podcast in which Paul learns what broadcasting without Storm is like. That’s what that movie was about, right? Jimmy Stewart was a radio broadcaster?

My basic struggle with this question is that most comic actors just aren’t that prolific if they maintain any level of quality, and I tend to prefer comedies to dramas. But anyway, my nominees:

If I had higher tolerance for repetition, I would choose Madeline Kahn.

If Robert Downey Jr. were doing what he’s doing now in the 90′s, he’d be a contender.

My runners-up: Bill Murray and Humphrey Bogart.

My answer: Dustin Hoffman.

First off, thanks for asking my question.

My answer is Bill Murray.

Meatballs, Caddyshack, Stripes, Ghost Busters, Groundhog Day, Kingpin, What about Bob, Lost in Translation, and almost all of the Wes Anderson movies.

Riots in the streets, dogs and cats living together, mass hysteria!

Thanks for the grammar correction as well, you are not the first, nor will you be the last to turn into my High School English Teacher.

Also props to Storm for dropping the weight. I have been trying to get under 200 as well. I look forward to hearing some tips on an upcoming podcast.
