I was bummed that you didn’t try Snuffers but I have to admit that given the option, I’d go for Trader Vic’s too. Soooo good.
I’ve now seen JC at two venerable Austin landmarks, the Cactus Club and then with you guys at Antone’s. The sound at the Granada blew those shows away. Such an awesome venue. I hope that everything on your side of the stage was just as great as it was for us in the audience.
Thanks again for coming to Dallas. Don’t be strangers!

Further Clarification: Highways are only “the” in Southern California. I grew up in San Diego where it was always “the 5″. But after living in Northern California for ten years, it’s become “I-5″ or more often just plain “5″. Sometimes when I go down to socal for a visit I still sometimes catch myself unconsciously adding the “the”.

Clarification: Highways are only “the ” in California, definitely not the whole left coast. I’ve lived in Portland and grew up in Seattle, and it’s definitely “I-5″ in both of those places, not “the 5″. Easy way to spot a native Californian in the PNW, in fact.

I like the songs as well. Usually stuff I’m unfamiliar or vaguely familiar with that kind of tie to the podcast, and fun to hear. If you don’t like it, it’s at the end….don’t listen. Kind of silly to get rid of a bonus as its just that-a bonus.

@Erin: Yeah, it’s true I can just fast forward past it. (So my mp3 player reads the podcast as listened to then auto deletes it.) Guess I can also ignore all the bonus features on a DVD. But I don’t. I watch at least part of most bonuses, and enjoy many of them. So far, after 40 P&S shows, I’ve only mildly enjoyed a couple of the post-show songs. For me (and probably no one else), I find them to be too unconnected to the content of the show.

If the songs were just an occasional inclusion to help make a point, or better yet, occasional out-takes or alternate versions of P&S songs, I’d be all for it. But sticking a song on each show seems unnecessary.

@Jack: I’m going to have to disagree. I like how P&S have the song at the end. If you want to listen to it, then you can, but you if you’re not interested, it’s not like you have to slog through it to get to the rest of the show. I don’t think it detracts from anything at all.

Here’s today’s curmudgeonly comment: I think it’s time to drop the song after the podcast. It rarely adds anything and tends to detract from what we’ve just heard.

Trader Vic’s actually dates back to the 1930′s. They claimed to have invented the Mai Tai in the 1940′s–their rival, Don the Beachcomber, also claimed to have created the drink. Tiki Culture became big in the US after the end of World War II and with the popularity of James Michner’s novel Tales of the South Pacific and the Rodgers & Hammerstein musical based on it. There was also Thor Heyerdahl’s 1947 movie Kon Tiki, which was very popular. Tiki Culture is actually one of those cultural phenomena about which a lot of books have been written: http://bit.ly/11dv

Having seen the picture from the Largo show on Wil Wheaton’s Twitter feed, I have to say: There was just too much awesome in that room!!! (By the by, at least one of the guys from the Reduced Shakespeare Company was there as well.)

I’m going to give Paul the benefit of the doubt and assume that he called Felicia a bitch in a joking sort of way. Otherwise he’d better be glad they you guys don’t have any shows in the Northeast anytime soon. And that Ms. Day didn’t use her Slayer powers on him.

Also thanks for the two incredible shows last weekend. I can’t remember the last time I’ve enjoyed myself so much.
