@Storm: I, too, am a member of the Frugal Tribe. It comes in handy, since I don't have a lot of spare cash to throw around, what with working for a non-profit. So my phone is only moderately smart... like maybe a B-minus student. And I just got my first portable media player a few weeks ago. (Yeah, that's right. Until recently I was kickin' it old-school with a CD player.) I have friends who have iPhones, Crackberries, and G1s, and all seem pretty happy with them. Man, I hang out with a lot of gadget geeks. :)

Also, as much as I enjoy throwing out a good "anthropomorphizing" every now and then, I think "people-ifying" is going to have to become part of my vocabulary from now on.

Ugh I forgot to send in a pie chart. I am sorry. I had the uhh, I forget the term, but the technical term is "shit to do." Sorry =D

Paul = super. You can quote me on that... dudes....

Museums are really cool, though.

Hot mustard? Do I even have to make the joke? I mean it seems like it's pretty obvious.

Paul and Storm tweet about some stuff for 140 characters or less, on average.

I have to say, I really love Storm's tweets.

I would get, if you're going to get one of those "fancy shmancy" phones (vs. ones that just call, text, etc.) I would get one of them Google joints or even something in the OpenMoko world. In general, the iPhone is massive waste of time, I think - especially if you're looking for security and maybe... hmm... freedom? Yeah that's usually good.

Good podcast. Not that long, but I liked it. That final song does NOT sound very KISS-y at all...

Don't despair about the minion slowdown. I have every intention of applying for minionhood, but I have to wait for a certain date to take my planned cool picture.

In the meantime, enjoy this:

I actually DO remember Mrs. Marv from Letterman's daytime show. I can still hear her wonderful nasally "Oh, Daaave!" in my mind. That was the big treat of staying home sick from school: watching Dave. Who knew back then that he'd be around so long?

About smart phones and iphones...I dunno nuthin 'bout phones.

Storm, since you’re a fellow Gizmodo fan, you’ve probably already seen this, but, since I’d also like to get a smartphone, I found it to be a good starting point when I read it last week: http://i.gizmodo.com/5173865/giz-explains-what-makes-the-five-smartphone-platforms-different

I was stuck at the Verizon store for about an hour this weekend, and played around with the Storm a bit. I, personally, wasn’t too impressed; it felt very sluggish and unresponsive. I also didn’t really like the way Storm felt in my hands. Something about the shape of it feels off.

BTW, your podcast feed isn’t playing nice with Zune again. Just FYI.

Well, Ive only ever had one smart phone and that would be the G1. I personally love it. I cant really trash any other phone since I dont know much about them. The apps and games are really cool, many of them are free and over the past few months they've only gotten better.

The 3G internet is damn fast looks like your every day PC browser.

I only really have 2 complaints about it.

1) The battery life isnt all that great. If you're not doing much but making/recieving calls and texting, its lasts a good long time (but chances are you're not just doing that or you wouldnt have a smart phone =P). There is an app or two you can download to utilize battery life to its fullest, which does help.

2) The camera is pretty shitty. The picture quality is pretty good at relatively close range and good lighting, but it doesnt zoom (if it does, ive somehow completely missed where the zoom option is) and theres pretty much no options for the camera. So if a great camera is an option you really look for in a phone I'd say you might be disappointed.

All in all I would defiantly recommend the Google phone, having this thing to pass the time has been wonderful. And as with all technology these days, its always a bit of a let down because a month later there will always be something newer and more advanced, so I say take the plunge now and get yourself a smart phone.

Personally, you can have my iPhone 3G when you pry it from my cold, dead fingers...then again, I willingly admit that I've drunk the Apple kool-aid (on my third iMac and second iPod, and have a .Mac/MobileMe account). The only reason I have a PC at home is that they are still the superior gaming machine.

If you want an iPhone and can wait until around June, then do so because (to quote 2010) "something wonderful is going to happen." Rumors range from a "pay-as-you-go" iPhone to a brand new iPhone to a 3G Netbook (I really want this to occur..."ugh, me want Apple Netbook!!!").

If you don't care about iPhones and/or AT&T (I've been with them since they were Cingular, and haven't had any problems...even here in central Pennsylvania), then the Blackberries (either Curve or Storm) look like strong contenders. If you want to stay with Sprint, then give the new Palm a test-drive when it comes out.

Best of luck!

Alternatively, some people hate the interface and necessity of clicking the screen on the Storm. I recommend test driving one before buying. Also, on the offchance that (our) Storm is on AT&T, I also recommend the iPhone (in before Roman bashes it). Honestly it's just a quality product. It can lack some things you might expect to be there, but all in all it's nice.

Past that, I hear good things about the touch-screen/QWERTY keyboard hybrid Blackberries.

On the subject of a new funky phone/toy for Storm I would give my clear choice given the option between the iPhone and a Google based phone... and the choice is, of course, a Blackberry!
Personally I use (and love) the Curve 8900 Javelin but assumed that given they have named the thing in his honour that Storm would want the Blackberry Storm http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blackberry_storm which now it has had its OS patched is a great phone with all the toys you could possibly want.

Now that that's out of the way...

I just wanted to say how tickled I was to see "Beth" as the post-show song, even before I listened. I have a clear memory of watching Kiss perform that on some 70s variety show, with Peter Criss playing a grand piano. (It might even be this video. A little more searching reveals that it's from a 1976 Paul Lynde Halloween special.)

I would recommend my BlackJack II to Storm, except that I haven't actually used it as a smart phone yet. I can tell you that it works perfectly well as a regular cell phone, though.

P.S. If Paul prefers to give his special commendation to someone who actually remembers Mrs. Marv Mendenhall, that's OK. I kinda cheated. :-)
