@Bish - Here's an even geekier detail: Father Mulcahy did not use a Bic pen for the airway. He cut the end off an eyedropper. (But I'm certain Quincy used a pen.)

I think the whole bacon thing (and this is not the popularity of bacon by itself but rather the current CELEBRATION of bacon our society seems to be undergoing at the moment) would qualify as a meme. Same with pirates, same with the Slanket. I think what the three have in common, besides a certain air of indulgence (bacon=fat and salt but sooo good; pirates=evil, stinky, barbarous villains, but sooo cool; Slanket = lazy-ass couch potato but you're sooo comfortable), is this:

It's like when you were in high school and you and your group of friends had in-jokes and references to certain random things that had significance mainly because you talked about them so much. It became a sort of touchstone for your connection with each other. A secret handshake.

Well, today the group of friends is a significant slice of the Internet plus the newspapers who plunder it for "trend article" ideas. People like jumping on the "bacon is cool" bandwagon for the naughty-indulgence factor, but also because it's something that many people agree on. And the more people talk about it, the more the TALKING about it becomes an event all its own.

Does this make sense? It sounded kind of like what you were fishing for on the podcast.

All this talk of bacon put me in a rather difficult position this morning: do I have bacon or pork roll with breakfast!? Such decisions must not be taken lightly.

It was, in fact, Father Mulcahy. Moreover, amongst geeky M*A*S*H EMT's the entire operation is now referred to as "The Father Mulcahy Maneuver."

Motion regarding Tom West's musical genius seconded.

Seeking bacon... but not in THAT kind of way,

P.S. Good to see you again, Paul!

Bacon: is there anything it CAN'T do?

Looks like the Birchmere is sold out! Yay for the JoCoPaSto Juggernaut, boo for my friend's friend who just tried to get extra tix.

I can't wait to see the final Flash, Storm! I'm going to assume your AS3 coding is going along better than mine at the moment.

Today's petty correction: I think it was actually Father Mulcahy, not Hawkeye, that did the ball point pen tracheotomy on M*A*S*H. (Hawkeye talked him through it over the radio.)

For what it's worth, I also remember seeing Quincy doing one on Quincy, M.E. (On a live patient.)

I think Vinnie said it best: "Bacon tastes <i>good</i>. Pork chops tatse <i>good</i>"

I have <a href="http://twitter.com/Colleenky/status/1175577314" rel="nofollow">offered</a> to procure bacon wallets for P&S. Waiting to see if they'll take me up on it. Act now! This offer good for a limited time only! :-)

A certain mutual friend of ours who has no tact once said that if there were ever a collegiate a cappella olympics, every group would have to perform a "compulsory Africa" and a "compulsory Lion Sleeps Tonight".

I performed a few of those tracheotomies myself. Didn't help.

@Tom: Indeed, the marimba was one of the more moving moments of my life.

To clarify, because I knew the statement would get me in trouble: my problem with college a cappella is that for the most part, it is essentially sitting and watching a cover band. Or four cover bands. Sometimes for hours. And that the vast majority of these groups don't do terribly much beyond recreate the original song in "doo bah" form. And having seen/heard literally hundreds of these groups in my time (and been in several), I've become rather jaded.

Unfortunately, it appears to be law that every third male group must cover "Africa" in particular, such that now, even if someone did something phenomenal and earth-shattering with the arrangement, I will have a hard time listening to it.

This is meant as no offense to the people in those groups or the people who enjoy listening to them; simply a matter of personal taste.

That said, Tom West is a musical genius.

I too was at Paul's reunion concert and had dinner that evening in a restaurant in town whose motto is "Where bacon is an herb."

That actually was probably the best performance of "Africa" our group has ever managed to pull off. The marimba soloist was impeccable.

Maybe next time we can get Paul to provide us some phat beatz with his vocal percussion stylings.

OK I am finally at home and listening to your cast properly. Here goes.

Paul you are a bad Code Monkey. I think what people can try is deleting the feed and the files from their hard drive, and then going to iTunes and re-add it, and download all files again. That may fix it. Also, try to use the regular RSS feed and grab that RSS link, go to iTunes and go to Advanced ---> Subscribe to Podcast, and try it that way.

Did you just compare your podcast to Woodstock? Srsly?

"Established and Accomplished" - great rap duo, by the way.

"Slightly Cryptic Titles" - great band by the way.

"Sloppy Seconds" I believe was the title of the porno <a HREF="http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/general/others/tv-provider-mortified-over-porn-super-bowl-interruption-1544174.html" rel="nofollow">shown to some people</A> during the SuperBowl.

Brown sauce? What exactly is brown sauce? I how it's not like <a HREF="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Duck" rel="nofollow">duck</A> sauce or <a HREF="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chihuahua_(dog)" rel="nofollow">chihuahua</A> cheese....

I don't really like bacon, but I think nerds like it because... it's delicious? The only problem is its porkiness. I have had some of the fake bacons, some are better than others I have to say.

We love pirates because we ARRRR pirates. (Really shitty pun arrr)

Storm how is your Flash learning going? I look forward to the day you *chuckle* Flash everybody. I think it's supposed to be Presidents day... Oh sorry, spoiler alert?

"Unleash the Widget" is the name of my next heavy metal/horror core album.

I thought the topic was good, plus Paul was just getting ready to say somethin' real Jewie, I think.

I think one thing that makes them successful is a good commercial. If can get Billy Mayes or the ShamWow guy, you're basically set.

Storm in the geeky group? I've said this before: Storm, ftw!

M*A*S*H reference? Again, Storm, ftw!

Birchmere? I don't know if you should go there, I here there's a huge hairy monster there.

I can make it to your live show, but you need to have a live show in Cleveland - then I can make it to your live show - isn't it magical how that works?

Oh and I now hear what you mean by the a capella covers of Africa. I kind of really like instruments for most things, the exception is something like DVN, which was comedic and therefore justified, as far as I know (I hadn't heard of you guys back then, unfortunately).

This I think is mostly the ideal length for your cast - obviously I wouldn't mind if it were twice as long (since my commutes where I normally listen if it's uploaded early enough in the morning are about an hour) but if you make it too short, I will be bored and have to... gosh... do homework? NOOO!

Overall, good show - they have a great flow to them, and I enjoy listening pretty consistently every week(ish). Rock on.

OK I am finally at home and listening to your cast properly. Here goes.

Paul you are a bad Code Monkey. I think what people can try is deleting the feed and the files from their hard drive, and then going to iTunes and re-add it, and download all files again. That may fix it. Also, try to use the regular RSS feed and grab that RSS link, go to iTunes and go to Advanced —> Subscribe to Podcast, and try it that way.

Did you just compare your podcast to Woodstock? Srsly?

“Established and Accomplished” – great rap duo, by the way.

“Slightly Cryptic Titles” – great band by the way.

“Sloppy Seconds” I believe was the title of the porno shown to some people during the SuperBowl.

Brown sauce? What exactly is brown sauce? I how it’s not like duck sauce or chihuahua cheese….

I don’t really like bacon, but I think nerds like it because… it’s delicious? The only problem is its porkiness. I have had some of the fake bacons, some are better than others I have to say.

We love pirates because we ARRRR pirates. (Really shitty pun arrr)

Storm how is your Flash learning going? I look forward to the day you *chuckle* Flash everybody. I think it’s supposed to be Presidents day… Oh sorry, spoiler alert?

“Unleash the Widget” is the name of my next heavy metal/horror core album.

I thought the topic was good, plus Paul was just getting ready to say somethin’ real Jewie, I think.

I think one thing that makes them successful is a good commercial. If can get Billy Mayes or the ShamWow guy, you’re basically set.

Storm in the geeky group? I’ve said this before: Storm, ftw!

M*A*S*H reference? Again, Storm, ftw!

Birchmere? I don’t know if you should go there, I here there’s a huge hairy monster there.

I don't know, but if you want a side of bacon to any old website, try <a href="http://bacolicio.us/" rel="nofollow">this</a>.

Great show, guys. How can you go wrong with bacon? My personal favorite bacon with other food combo is with chocolate. Have you tried Mo's Bacon Bar? YUM!

I think Len said it best, bacon is so popular because of the naughty factor. BTW, Len, that's definitely one of my favorite Jawbone episodes. :)

Speaking of podcasts obsessed with bacon, you guys should check out Munchcast (Leo Laporte and Cammy Blackstone). It's all about food and even when it's not the topic, they talk about bacon at least once a show. They also did a episode last summer all about Pirate food (and played "The Captain's Wife's Lament," fyi). You can find it on <a href="http://www.twit.tv" rel="nofollow">TwiT's website</a>.

Yay for the minion logo shirt being available on Cafe Press now! I'm off to give you guys more money. :)

I have not yet listened to the cast, but will do so when I am at home. In the mean time, I heard it was about Bacon. Well, a buddy of mine showed me his bacon wallet yesterday, - it's not actually bacon (obviously) nor does it contain bacon. Instead, the outside of it looks very bacony-looking. Now I know what you're thinking, "Bacony-looking wallet" is the name of my emo band. That may be true, but still...

Also, this has long since expired from Craigslist, but there was an interesting bacon-related thread ("Interesting Bacon-Related Thread" is my first album). It was originally located <a HREF="http://milwaukee.craigslist.org/m4w/916817065.html" rel="nofollow">here</A> and said, quote:

Do you love bacon? Do you often drift off into dreams about bacon? Are you eating bacon right now? If so, I may just be the man for you.

We'll wake up in the morning, drink some OJ and eat some bacon. Throughout the day bacon will come up again, in so many many ways. Creaky door? Bacon! Dry skin? Bacon! When it comes to sexual play, we can use bacon some more! Bacon grease is a great lubricant, and my goodness, it'll be hard (ha!) to stop each other from going down. And we can get a slab of uncut bacon and slap each others asses. Bacon can play a delicious part in every nook and cranny of our lives, it's not just for breakfast anymore!

So if you want to be part of a great threesome, you, me & bacon, contact today!

Until the word "embroidered" made it's way slowly into the right bit of my brain, I was imagining something more like a bacon appliqué, which would make an entirely different statement. Kind of like this: http://is.gd/ifk1

Embroidered is cool.

So, will you post a guide on how best to pick out a Snuggie?

I couldn't help it.

Bacon is so popular due to its awesomeness.

Snuggie == eboR

(If that's too obscure, I'm saying it's basically a robe worn backwards.)

Re: Bacon, see <i>Iron Chef America</i>. Cross-reference with "Bacon makes everything better." I swear, they put bacon in every-damn-thing on that show. Even dessert! (I kid you not. Bacon blueberry parfait.)

I understand the Snuggie in theory, but the commercial makes the people "enjoying" them look like demented, brightly colored Dominican monks. And what's the point of taking them to outdoor sporting events? It leaves your back completely exposed.

Woohoo! Official minion gear, here I come. (As soon as I get home this evening. Don't want to do that at work.)
