I still remember him coming to my elementary school when I was growing up (circa 81 or 82 in a po dunk town of GA). The things were called "The Great Southeastern Assembly", but sure enough he visited us and spoke about what he did. I don't remember much apart from him whistling the theme from The Andy Griffith Show.

The geeks out there should recognize Harlem Nocturne from the original Metroid soundtrack. It's half the reason why that game was so good.
