Oh, there’s plenty of smack to be talked.

Though it does seem like we have an easier task, since our Strategic Rival has a well-developed style that can be emulated (though it will take every ounce of our Fu to accomplish the task). We, on the other hand, usually assume whatever style suits our comic ends (no pun intended. Honestly.) Jonathan also has to diminish his playing and recording skills by 1/2 in order to properly capture our sound, which is no easy thing to do.

Our special challenge is that we have to suppress our natural instincts. We could probably churn out a dozen JoCo parodies in a day (of varying quality), but no one would mistake them for the real deal. Why? Because we really, really, really like dick jokes, but they just don’t belong there (to date, at least).

Then there’s The Big Question: even if our entry is spot-on (and we manage to keep dick jokes out of it) will hardcore JoCo fans (who we assume will be the larger portion of the voting public) be willing to accept a Jonathan Coulton song by anyone other than Jonathan Coulton (a rose by any other name and all that)?

If the three of us were really feeling wicked, we and Jonathan would just write our regular songs, swap them, and see what happens.

But we wouldn’t do that.

It would be wrong.

I’m looking forward to your Fu challenge song and hoping that this will lead to a Paul, Storm and JoCo supergroup collaboration. Might I suggest a song about a love triangle between a zombie, a monkey and a Pirate? It could end in a bullfight-like battle against a giant squid.

I can’t wait for this: it shall be…epic. I can only hope this challenge reflects all of your professionalism, grace and talents we’ve come to know and love. Meaning I expect lots of back-stabbing, mud-slinging, name-calling and below-the-belt hits.
