Bridesmaids Again, But At Least Now We Have a Nice Fuschia Dress

We recently found out we were finalists in the 2007 USA Songwriting Competition in the "Comedy/Novelty" category for our song "A Better Version of You". (The Da Vinci’s Notebook song "Liposuction" won the category in 2004).

Unfortunately, we didn’t win the category; songwriter Eric Colville won for his song "Doer’s Lament". Congratulations to him. I think we get a box of guitar picks or something.

It’s a pretty good song…but that’s the funniest song this year? Who chooses these? Not only was yours better, I can name at least a dozen more.

Oh man. While you’re gracious in defeat, the only thing Colville song had going for it was the hook, which he used… way… too… much.

While I’m no expert, I suspect your song was ‘rated R: not good for radioplay’ and thus would not be able to be leveraged to shine the spotlight of free publicity upon the USA Songwriting Competition organization and their sponsors.

But take heart, posting the lyrics will get you more webpage hits. So you got that going for you. Which is nice. Get em next year.

    Hey Guys –

Thanks for being cool about my award. Re: these contests – you just never know. I’m not sure I agree with some of the choices myself. Best to you. I’ll check out your song. Jowarri – it was a bit much but then for years everyone told me I need to repeat more…alas.
